2026 is the year of tactile walls. Clients are moving away from perfectly smooth, sterile surfaces.

• Refined Textures: Consider offering limewash or mineral finishes. these create a "cloud-like" depth that changes with the sunlight throughout the day.
• Matte & Velvet: High-gloss is "out" for walls. Matte and velvet finishes are preferred because they hide minor plaster imperfections and give a sophisticated, designer feel.
• Micro-Cement: For a modern industrial look, micro-cement on feature walls provides a seamless, concrete-like finish that is also waterproof.

• Color Drenching: This is a major 2026 trend. It involves painting the walls, ceiling, skirtings, and doors all in the exact same color.
• The "Fifth Wall" (Statement Ceilings): Instead of standard white, ceilings are being painted in warm neutrals, soft charcoals, or even deep forest greens to "anchor" the room.
• Two-Tone Walls: Using a darker shade on the bottom half of a wall (often separated by a timber dado rail) and a lighter shade on top to add architectural interest.

• Ultra-Low/Zero VOC: Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) cause that "new paint smell" which can be toxic. Using Zero-VOC paints is now a standard requirement for high-end renovations.
• Antimicrobial Coatings: For "wet areas" like kitchens and bathrooms, use paints with integrated silver-ion technology that prevents mold and bacteria growth.
• Air-Purifying Paints: Some modern paints actually "eat" formaldehyde and other pollutants from the air, improving the home’s overall indoor air quality.
